Water shortages are becoming more and more frequent. Even in the US, aging infrastructure, contaminated wells, and failing septic systems leave millions without access to clean water. But wastewater infrastructure has barely changed in the last 250 years. Until now: Epic Cleantec has engineered a way to cut water use 50% with their water system that mimics the way astronauts reuse water in space.
Epic’s system captures water from dishwashers, toilets, showers, and faucets before it goes to the sewer, putting it through an advanced treatment in the basement of that building to turn waste water into clean water as well as fertilizer and renewable energy.
After you flush, or turn off the faucet, you probably don’t think much about where the water goes. But here’s why you should.
